Tom Herr, the exemplary Cardinals player of the Herzog era. Bill James (2001) pulled this Herzog quote from Whitey's 1999 book: "Fundamentally, he was such a smart player. The whole time I managed him, he never screwed up a ground ball or a play that he should have made. He never made a mental mistake. And he played hurt."
